After months of waiting, you can finnaly buy Rolla's new CD, Fits & Starts, on iTunes. The disk version, however, will be out on December 8th. I bought the iTunes album until the disk comes out so I can at least own it. Of coarse, i'm buying the disk too so I can get it signed. But I have listened to the whole thing and I gotta say it is 100 times better than La La Land (which was a quite amazing album). So come everybody and buy this album on iTunes and put Rolla on the top 100 albums of iTunes. Here is my song by song and full album review:
Full Album Review - Fits & Starts is definatly a change and many steps up from there first album, La La Land. It exibits much more of Fuzz and Carrie's powerful voices. You can also get a much better look at Fuzz's guitar solos and Marc and Daves talented guitar and drum playing. If you are expecting to hear a soft rock album like La La Land (not saying soft rock is bad at all), then you are mistaken. Fits & Starts has a much different mood. It is the best album I have bought or listened to for a long time. It was worth the long, long, wait. I give it 5 of 5 stars.
1. Let It Happen - The opening song starts off with an amazing bass line. After a few seconds, we add Fuzz and Carrie in, and then the drums. The song is good but really heats up half way through when Fuzz comes in with an AMAZING guitar solo for about 2 minutes. Then the song end the same way it entered. This song is fun and it makes you just fall in love with the album.
2. How Do You Do It? - I might call this the albums first single. This song has a great opening by Fuzz on his electric guitar. The lyrics are catchy and it really lets Fuzz and Carrie show their voices out. Fuzz may not have a super guitar solo like in Let It Happen but that doesn't mean a thing when you got a powerful voice and amazing lyrics. If you had to buy one song off the album (I reccomend buying the whole thing) I would buy this one.
3. Strangest Thing - The start is yet another catchy Fuzz interlude. Then it gets into a very Beatles-like rock pop sound. After the chorus, the song suddenly bursts back into Fuzz's intro. Later on there is a small solo by the king (Fuzz of coarse). The ending really seals the deal. I've got to say Strangest Thing really adds something to this album that just makes it "perfect".
4. You Fell Down - You Fell Down is a La La Land style slow song that has a sad feeling to it. Yet, that is what makes the song. Why I say it is like La La Land is because it is this way. I mean, it even has the la la la's in it that many of La La Land's did. I thought the piano (i think its a piano) ending was creative and gave the song a little extra hint of flavor and style to it.
5. I'm Happy - I heard this song for the first time on Rolla's acoustic WHNU performance I downloaded. I was hoping and hoping there would be a recorded version on Fits & Starts. Sure enough, there was! I'm Happy is the first Rolla song to ever have a drum solo by Marc. Fuzz has a little solo, too. It may notr be the albums best, but I still think it is amazing and very, very well done. I am a drummer so I liked how Marc got to show his drumming talent to the world of music.
6. Clay - The last song on this album (the only one I had never heard before the album) was a definate surprise. It might be the album's best song. Fuzz plays great guitar and sings extrordinarily, Carrie's voice is a powerhouse, Marc's 16-note drumming is the songs missing piece, and Dave had a great steady and fun bass part. The song is fun and is one you can't get enough of. I base an album on having a better song then I bought it for. This surpassed the 5 other songs I bought the album for (which were sooooo amazing). Great job Rolla for finishin' this album so amazingly perfectly.
So that sums up the album and my quite long review of Rolla's new album Fits & Starts. Even though it was a little short, It was unbelievable. You won't regret this buy. REMEMBER: It is avaible on iTunes now and will be avaible on disk on December 8th. *GO TO THE CD RELEASE PARTY TO GET THE DISK FOR JUT $5* So what are you waiting for! Go buy it! I'm done writing this. THIS TOOK ME AN HOUR SO PLEASE READ TE WHOLE THING!
